10 per cent drop in Galway unemployment figure last month

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Unemployment figures for Galway city and county fell dramatically last month. (Sept)

According to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office, there was a 10 per cent drop in unemployment in September.

There are now 14 thousand 523 people out of work in Galway.

The biggest drop in unemployment last month was in the city where 715 people came off the Live Register in September.

There are now just over 7 and a half thousand people out of work in Galway city.

In Loughrea last month, 262 people came off the Live Register.

There are now just over 13 hundred people out of work in Loughrea.

In Tuam, there was a similar decrease with 255 less people on the Live Register in September.

The jobless figure for Tuam now stands at just over 2 thousand 100.

The unemployment figure in Ballinasloe decreased by 165, leaving it at just under one thousand 700.

Just over one hundred people came off the Live Register in Gort last month.

There are now just over a thousand people without jobs in Gort.

Clifden saw the smallest drop in unemployment last month, with 23 people coming off the Live Register.

There is now an unemployment figure of 772 for Clifden.

Overall, more than 15 hundred people came off the Live Register in the city and county between August and September, a drop of almost 10 and a half per cent.

There are now 14 and a half thousand people out of work in Galway, compared to more than 16 thousand this time last year.
