Galway Bay Fm newsroom-Galway Gardai have put a comprehensive traffic plan in place for the arrival, and trip through part of city from the Town Hall to The Sportsground by the victorious Connacht Rugby team this afternoon.

Thousands are expected to throng the city streets and The Sportsground when the team make their triumphant trip on an open top bus starting at the Town Hall Theatre at 4 pm.

Earlier today Garda chiefs met at Mill Street Station and they have put in place a traffic plan which it is hoped will ensure the smooth running of the victorious Connacht team’s triumphant trip through the street of the City of the Tribes.

Inspector Ernie Whyte says drivers of vehicles will be subject to detours along the parade route and city centre from 3.45 to 5 this afternoon.

The victorious members of the Connacht Rugby squad will make their way on an open-topped bus from outside the Town Hall Theatre in Courthouse Square, via Saint Francis Street, Eglinton Street, Williamsgate Street and on to Eyre Square North, Eyre Square East, turning on to Forster Street and then via College Road to the home of Connacht Rugby at The Sportsground where they will be a accorded a heroes’ welcome.
An Garda Siochána and Galway City Council will implement the traffic management plan on this Sunday afternoon which will include rolling closures on streets and junctions affected in the area of the bus route and in the vicinity of The Sportsground itself.
