Galway Bay Fm newsroom-The traditional Corpus Christi procession which takes place in the city this afternoon will start slightly earlier in order not to clash with the homecoming of the victorious Connacht Rugby Team.

The procession will now begin at the slightly earlier time of 3.35 after Mass at 3 in the Abbey Church, St. Francis Street.

It’ll then proceed to the Poor Clare monastery via the Salmon Weir Bridge, where the procession will conclude with benediction.

A spokesperson for the organisers says that by starting the Corpus Christi parade at the erlier time of 3.35 they hope to avoid any clash with the rugby celebrations.

Mayor Frank Fahy will attend both the Corpus Christi parade and the rugby team’s victorious homecoming celebrations.

A number of other Corpus Christ Processions are taking place at other churches across the county this weekend.
