Galway Bay Fm newsroom-A Galway Senator who failed to get a Dail seat in the recent General Election has been unsuccessful in getting a nomination from the Labour Party.
Athenry’s Senator Lorraine Higgins was unsuccessful in getting the Labour party’s single nomination for a seat on the Seanad’s Industrial and commercial panel.
Senator Higgins lost out to former Minister of State Aodhán O Ríordáin who lost his Dublin Bay North Dáil seat in the general election.
He competed with outgoing Galway Senator Higgins and Senator John Kelly for a single nomination to run for this Seanad panel.
Senator Higgins got the Seanad seat for the first time after being defeated in the previous General Election. Since then she has been unsuccessful in the European elections and in the recent General election.
Having been ulucky in getting a Senate nomination from the Labour party this time could possibly mean an end to her political career for now.
The second Labour party nomination for the Seanad has gone to another defeated Minister of State Kevin Humphreys.
The Labour party’s central council and parliamentary party decided the nominees through a postal vote.
