Galway Bay fm newsroom – ‘We don’t need permission from Brussels to dredge rivers’ – that’s the message from Independent MEP for the West / North West, Marian Harkin.
She says there is a need in Ireland to develop a State-backed solution to tackle the problem on uninsurable property.
MEP Harkin also says that the European Commission has confirmed that it doesn’t need to know about emergency works carried out to alleviate flooding.
Recently an emergency channel which was constructed in Kinvara managed to alleviate flooding and protect many homes.
The Independent TD says when works have overriding public importance, they can be carried out.
MEP Harkin adds that a multi-agency approach is not the correct method to solve the flooding crisis.
