Galway Bay fm newsroom – Residents in North Galway are expressing their outrage after being told by Galway County Council that no flood assistance works are to be undertaken in the area.
Councillor James Charity says that it was suggested to locals in Pollnahalla that a temporary road would be constructed to allow families to access isolated homes.
However, he claims that the local authority has now informed residents that no such works will be undertaken – and their assessment is that only flash flooding has occured.
The Independent Councillor says that a turlough exists in Pollnahalla, and past experience indicates that it could take weeks, or even months, for flood water to recede.
Councillor Charity says there’s a feeling of total abandonment in many areas of North Galway.
