Galway Bay fm newsroom – The man who died following last night’s crash on the N17 in Castlegar is from East Galway.
The N17 remains closed this morning as Gardai conduct a forensic examination of the scene of the incident near McHugh’s Pub.
The man, who was 52 years of age, was riding a motorbike when he was involved in a collision with a car at around 9.45 last night.
He was taken to University Hospital Galway where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the car did not suffer any injuries.
Diversions are in place on the N17 at the traffic lights at Claregalway, and at Parkmore in the city.
Traffic from both sides can return to the N17 via Carnmore Cross.
It’s expected that the diversions will remain in place until around mid-day.
