One year wait to re-let Galway’s social housing

Galway Bay fm newsroom – It takes Galway County Council one full year to re-let social housing units.

That’s according to a new report which examines re-letting times and the associated costs nationwide.

The report shows that it takes Galway County Council 51 weeks to re-let local authority housing at a cost of eight thousand euro per unit.

Re-letting times are shorter in Galway City at 36 weeks – but the associated costs are almost double at fourteen thousand euro per unit.

According to Irish Independent, Laois has the fastest turnaround nationwide, with a re-letting period of just 10 weeks at a cost of three thousand euro.

Cork City has both the longest re-letting times and highest associated costs by a significant margain – with an average turnaround of 82 weeks at a staggering cost of 35 thousand euro.
