Galway Bay fm newsroom – Residents in Gort who’ve been stranded by flooding are being ferried to and from their homes by the defence forces today.
Gort is one of a number of towns and villages on high alert for flooding as Storm Frank makes landfall.
Gale force winds and heavy rain are forecast for many parts – with the south, west and north west of the country set to be the worst affected.
Almost 50 soldiers have been deployed by the Civil Defence around the country to help those already experiencing flooding.
10 of these are stationed in Gort.
Corporal Nigel Callanan is in Gort this afternoon, and says the flooding is likely to get worse, but more soldiers are on standby.
