Galway Bay fm newsroom – A temporary flood barrier has been installed in the St Michael’s Square area of Ballinasloe town ahead of heavy rain forecast for the coming days.
Businesses in the area were badly impacted by flooding recently in the aftemath of Storm Desmond.
Storm Frank, the sixth storm to hit Ireland this month, is expected to hit the west coast on Tuesday.
County Council engineers have now set up a flood barrier to prevent further flooding in Ballinasloe town, and pumps are also on standby.
Ballinasloe area councillor Aidan Donohoe says it’s a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile the N18 remains closed at Labane today due to flooding, and diversions are in place.
Diversions are also in place on the Gort to Corofin road at Tierneevin.
