Galway Bay FM Newsroom – An Post has agreed to meet locals in Cleggan about the future of the postal agency in the village.
The company confirmed that it would not be renewing its arrangement for a postal agency once on the shop owner retired.
A postal agency is not a full post office but provides services such as the payment of Social Welfare and pensions.
Locals will now have to travel to Claddaghduff post office to collect social welfare payments.
Galway West T.D Seán Kyne has organised a meeting between locals and An Post officials on Friday September 18th.
Deputy Kyne says the local delegation will put their case for the postal agency in Cleggan to An Post.
