Galway Bay fm newsroom – Social workers have moved to new accommodation at University Hospital Galway to facilitate the expansion of the A&E.
Controversy has surrounded the plans to provide more emergency department space as it means the relocation of both social work and physiotherapy services.
The HSE had agreed to review aspects of the planned expansion following discussions with Impact union.
Staff feel that the moving of social work and physio services to a location such as Merlin Park would compromise patient safety and standards of care.
Following negotiations, social workers have now moved to pre-fab accommodation at the UHG campus in Newcastle.
However negotiations over the relocation of physio services is still ongoing.
