Galway Bay fm newsroom – No decision has been reached on the future operation of aviation services at Galway Airport just hours ahead of the expiration of the current agreement .

Last night’s meeting of Galway City Council failed to provide clarity on the issue, with councillors being told that negotiations are ‘ongoing’.

The current agreement is set to expire at 5 o’ clock this evening – and would see the end of all commercial activity at the site for the second time in two years.

Councillor Declan McDonnell demanded to know why an agreement could not be reached between the city and county councils and Carnmore Aviation Limited, which currently operates the site.

The Independent councillor claimed that a new subsidised contract recently offered to the company was turned down – and wanted to know why it was rejected.

Councillor Niall McNelis suggested that it could be a funding issue for the county council.

Chief Executive Brendan McGrath refused to be drawn on the reason – but he told councillors that they had not given up and negotiations are continuing with Carnmore Aviation Limited.
