File for DPP following city centre assault

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A teenager who was arrested in connection with a number of incidents in the city at the weekend, has been released without charge.

An 18 year old man suffered stab wounds and another man was threatened with a knife at Headford Road yesterday morning.

A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The victim was taken to University Hospital Galway but his stab wounds were not life-threatening.

Two other men in their 20’s had their wallets and mobile phones stolen during the incidents at Headford Road and Woodquay around 2am yesterday.

A 17 year old boy with a Dublin address, who was arrested in Eyre Square, has been released without charge and a file is pending to the DPP.

Meanwhile, a 22 year old man from the county, remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital this afternoon following a serious separate assault in the city centre at the weekend.

The man suffered a head injury after a row broke out outside a fast food outlet at Shop Street, in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sun).

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing for witnesses to the fracas to contact them.
