Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Galway 2020 team will present Galway’s bid for European Capital of Culture to a panel of adjudicators in the next hour.
The bid has been developed over the last year, and outlines Galway’s cultural strategy, and the unique experiences the city and county has to offer.
Almost one and a half million people have engaged with the Galway2020 campaign on Twitter since Galway’s European Capital of Culture bid was launched.
Over 20 thousand people have directly signed up to support the bid on Facebook.
Today, the team is urging the people of Galway city and county to continue to use Facebook and Twitter to show their support by using the Galway2020 hashtag.
Social media feeds are being continuously monitored by the panel of European judges who will make the final decision on the shortlist tomorrow.
Galway is facing competition from Dublin, Limerick, and the ‘Three Sisters’ team of Kilkenny, Waterford & Wexford.
The Galway presentation will get underway at Dublin Castle at 2.30 this afternoon, and will take 30 minutes.
Galway’s bid will be presented by 10 delegates from the Galway 2020 team, including project manager Patricia Philbin and Galway City Council CEO Brendan McGrath.
The group will then take questions for one hour from the panel of judges.
The announcement of the European Capital of Culture shortlist will be made at a press conference at Dublin Castle at 4.15 on Friday afternoon.
Shortlisted cities will then compete head to head from next week, until the end of July 2016, when the winner will be announced.
