Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway City Council has issued a safety warning for pedestrians and motorists as severe weather is expected to batter the city and county over the next 36 hours.

Met Eireann has issued an orange weather warning for Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo, and Donegal.

The City Council says there’s potential for some localised flooding and heavy on-shore spray in the Salthill area along the Promenade caused by high winds.

This is particularly possible at high tide at around 5.00am and at 5.30pm on Thursday.

Caution is advised for walkers on exposed shores and beside waterways in the city – with gusting winds in excess of 120km per hour expected.

Motorists are being advised to avoid parking in the main carpark in Salthill and at Toft Park on the Prom.

Galway City Council says crews are on standby should conditions deteriorate further.
