Galway Bay fm newsroom – The application to the High Court  to set a date to hear Savita Halappanavar’s medical negligence case has been postponed by a week.

The application was expected to be handed into the Four Courts in Dublin this morning to seek a full hearing in early March.

However, the submission was postponed until next Wednesday at the request of the Health Service Executive.

Praveen Halappanavar’s solicitor Gerard O’ Donnell has received a letter from the HSE asking for more time to ensure that all their witnesses are available for the proposed hearing in March.

Praveen Halappanavar is expected to return from the US for the hearing.

He left Galway last year after being temporarily transferred to California by his employer Boston Scientific.

His 31 year old wife Savita died from septicaemia on the 28th of October 2012, seven days after being admitted to University Hospital Galway. She was seventeen weeks pregnant at that time.

Mr Halappanavar has always maintained that his wife repeatedly requested a termination in the hospital.

An inquest at the Coroner’s court was told the miscarriage of her baby was a contributory factor in Savita’s death.

Solicitor Gerard O’ Donnell says Mr Halappanavar is determined to travel back to Ireland to see justice done.
