Galway Bay fm newsroom – An application is being made this morning for the hearing of the medical negligence case into the death of Savita Halappanavar at UHG.

The application is expected to be handed into the Four Courts in Dublin around now to seek a full hearing in early March.

City-based solicitor Gerard O’ Donnell, who represents her husband Praveen Halappanavar, says Savita’s widower will return from the US for the hearing.

He left Galway last year after being temporarily transferred to California with his employer Boston Scientific.

His 31 year old wife Savita died from septicaemia on the 28th of October 2012, seven days after being admitted to University Hospital Galway.

She was seventeen weeks pregnant at that time.

Mr Halappanavar has always maintained that his wife repeatedly requested a termination in the hospital.

An inquest at the Coroner’s court was told the miscarriage of her baby was a contributory factor in Savita’s death.

Speaking on this programme, Solicitor Gerard O’ Donnell says Mr Halappanavar is determined to travel back to Ireland to see justice done.
