TEMPLEOGUE may well be coming off the back of their first loss of the season after their Hula Hoops Cup clash saw them lose out to Griffith Swords Thunder in a thriller, but they will have to bounce back pretty quickly as they travel to Tralee for Super League action on Saturday evening.
Indeed, despite their defeat on Wednesday evening, they are still undefeated in the Super League, and are currently top of the table with nine wins from nine – a fact that is not lost on Mark Bernsen, Head Coach of Garvey’s Tralee Warriors as his side prepares to welcome the table toppers to the Kingdom. Warriors themselves are in flying form, and boast an undefeated record on their home court so far this season.
“We’ve had a couple of losses on the road this past month that could have gone either way,” Bernsen admitted. “Those kind of games tend to linger with you as a coach a little longer. Templeogue have great Irish players along with Bonaparte and Puff Summers. They have big experience and we’re looking forward to it.”
All eyes will also be focused on a hugely anticipated clash between UCD Marian and Griffith Swords Thunder on Friday evening.
“We’re really looking forward to it, It’s a key game for us as whoever wins will stay up close to Templeogue and have the chance to go top of the League,” said UCD Head Coach Ioannis Liapakis “A win would be a big plus.”
Elsewhere, KUBS and Belfast Star get the action underway when they go head-to-head tonight (Thursday), Commercial.ie Éanna face Pyrobel Killester on Friday, while DCU Saints play host to UCC Demons and SSE Airtricity Moycullen welcome Radisson Blu UL Eagles.
In the Women’s Super League meanwhile, it is time to regroup after a nail-biting weekend of Cup action last weekend.
Pyrobel Killester face League leaders Ambassador UCC Glanmire this weekend off the back of a narrow Cup defeat to DCU last weekend.
“We were very down after our loss at the weekend, particularly how we lost in the second half,” stated Head Coach, Karl Kilbride. “That one is gone now though and all we can do is learn our lessons from it and move on. We’re very excited for the game this Saturday, Glanmire have consistently been the best team in the country over the last couple of years. You always want to test yourself against the best and what better place to do that then by playing Glanmire?”
Maxol WIT Wildcats are also looking forward to getting back on track after an agonizing Cup defeat to Glanmire last weekend.
“We are still a bit angry with ourselves over last weekend, we felt that we had a great chance and failed to take it,” said Head Coach Mick Evans. “But there’s nothing like playing another game to get over it, so we will hopefully bounce back and get a win. We’re not taking anything for granted, DCU are a great team and we need to step up.”
Elsewhere, Portlaoise Panthers will be aiming to get back to winning ways on their home turf when they face NUIG Mystics, while Singleton SuperValu Brunell hope to build on their first win of the season last week when they take on Meteors.
