Galway Bay Fm newsroom:-An effort is afoot to make the Mayor of Boston, Marty Walsh, a Freeman of Connemara…in an official capacity.
Councillor Seán Ó Tuairisc believes that the new local Government structure west of the Corrib – the Connemara District Municipal Authority – have it in their power to institute such a system….and he thinks Mayor Walsh would be a very worthy of being made a Freeman.
The election of Marty Walsh, the son of emigrants from the Gaeltacht areas of Ros Muc and Carna, as Mayor of Boston, was an historic milestone in the connections between Connemara and the Massachusetts capital.
Not alone is Mayor Walsh the son of Connemara emigrants; he has also been a visitor to the area since childhood and he maintains strong and constant links with his father’s and mother’s home community
