Liam Mellows have tabled a motion for the Galway County convention on Dec 12th with three points, the most significant being the call to approach Munster and ask to be included in the Munster Hurling Championship! This comes as the clamour to have all Galway teams (Minor, U21, Senior & Intermediate) included in the Leinster Championship and that Galway get home games in Leinster and are treated equally continues to escalate. There are 3 motions in total on the Clár for discussion at the Galway County Convention but the Liam Mellows motion on seeking inclusion into the Munster Championship is bound to cause widespread discussion.
The Motions which will be considered at the Annual Galway GAA County Convention on 12th December are as follows:
Motion 1.
(i) That the Annual Galway GAA County Convention hereby requires that Rules 6.26 (B), (F), (G) and (H) of An Treoraí Oifigiúl 2016 be amended to allow access to all Inter-County Hurling Teams from Galway – Minor, Under-21, Junior, Intermediate and Senior – to participate fully in all relevant Tier 1 Competitions in a single Provincial System and Structure, with immediate effect under Rule 3.40 (g), T.O. 2016 and that;
(ii) That Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe is hereby authorised to forward this motion to Ard-Comhairle for inclusion on the upcoming Annual GAA Congress Agenda, under Rule 3.40 (a) (i), T.O. 2016 and;
(iii) That Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe is further authorised to make an immediate application to Comhairle Mumhan, to be fully included in all their Provincial Championships and Competitions, at all grades of Inter-County Hurling from 2018 forward.
(Liam Mellows)
