Galway Bay fm newsroom – The current public service obligation air contract for the Aran Islands has been extended until February next year.
A new contract was due to be signed yesterday, with the preferred tenderer listed as Executive Helicopters.
Aran Islanders have staged several protests over the decision to favour a helicopter service from Galway Airport in Carnmore over the existing aeroplane service provided by Aer Arann from Na Mine airport in Inverin.
The new contract was scheduled to begin on October 1st but Gaeltacht Minister, Joe McHugh has now confirmed that the existing contract has been extended until February 1st 2016.
