Galway Bay fm newsroom – A meeting to discuss the opening of the long awaited Ballinfoile Castlegar Neighbourhood Centre will take place in the city this morning. (20/10)
The new centre was officially opened in May by then Mayor Frank Fahy – but the new facility has yet to be outfitted and remains closed to the public.
Local residents have expressed frustration in recent weeks at the slow pace in finalising arrangements for the future management of the centre.
Among their key concerns is a fear that the centre, which was originally expected to open by September, will now remain closed until 2017.
They’re also awaiting a funding agreement with the City Council in order to purchase equipment to outfit the Neighbourhood Centre.
A meeting between SCCUL, local authority officials and community representatives to discuss the future operation of the facility will take place this morning.
