Galway Bay fm newsroom – A decision is imminent on the selection of a preferred bidder for the Aran air service.
The tender deadline for the PSO contract was extended several times in recent months – largely due to an impasse between the owners of Na Minna airport and the Department.
The current contract with Aer Arann was extended until the end of the year amid problems in procuring the new service provider.
Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs and Fine Gael TD for Galway West and Mayo South, Seán Kyne says a decision on the four year contract should be made in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Comharchumann Forbartha Arann Teo is seeking an urgent meeting with the Department of the Gaeltacht following the planned withdrawal of ferry services to Inis Mor.
Island Ferries Teo has taken the decision to withdraw the service from next month until mid-March due to what it describes as ‘policy decisions beyond its control’.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, islanders say they’re extremely disappointed and a solution must be found as a matter of urgency.
