Galway Bay fm newsroom – The funeral mass for Bobby Molloy, one of Galway’s best known and longest serving politicians, will take place at Galway Cathedral on Wednesday afternoon.
The 80 year old former government minister passed away at the weekend after a long battle with illness.
Bobby Molloy was one of the longest-serving politicians in the Galway West constituency, and held many cabinet posts including Minister for Defense, Minister for Local Government and Minister for Energy.
In 1986, he was one of the most prominent Fianna Fail members to help in the formative stages of the Progressive Democrats.
He retired from politics in 2002 amid controversy over representations concerning a court case.
Tomorrow afternoon Galway city council will hold a special meeting in honour of Bobby Molloy, as he served a term as Mayor of the city from July 1968 to June 1969.
The special meeting takes place at 12.30pm, and a book of condolence will be opened.
His funeral arrangements have now been finalised, and he will be reposing at his home at Rockbarton Road, Salthill from 3pm until 7pm tomorrow.
Requiem mass will take place on Wednesday at 12 at Galway Cathedral.
Afterwards, Bobby Molloy will be laid to rest at the New Cemetery, Bohermore.
Bobby Molloy is survived by his wife Phyllis and their children Sinéad, Sorcha, Daragh and Donncha, and a large circle of family and friends and political colleagues and friends.
