Galway Bay fm newsroom – Three quarters of a million euro in funding has been given to GMIT under the government’s national grant programme for Institutes of Technology.
Junior Minister and Galway West TD Seán Kyne says it will help the Institute with infrastructure improvements and upgrading of IT facilities.
It’s part of a €10 million fund for the country’s 14 Institutes of Technology
The money will be distributed based on the amount of pupils in each institute.
DIT and Cork Institute of Technology will get the most, with 900-thousand euro each.
Minister Kyne told FYI Galway that this week we have been fortunate to see a number of companies expanding or setting up in Galway and the quality of our local higher education institutes, such as GMIT, is beyond doubt a crucial factor in attracting companies and fostering innovation and job creation.
