Climate Change Minister launches European recycling initiative in Ballinasloe

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Climate Change Minister and WEEE Ireland CEO are launching European Battery Recycling Day in Ballinasloe this afternoon. (1pm)

WEEE Ireland is the country’s largest collection scheme for batteries and electronic waste.

Ireland faces an EU recycling target of 45% for batteries by the end of this year.

The pupils at Laurencetown National School in Ballinasloe have been getting involved – and have collected almost 100 kilos of batteries for recycling over the past year.

It’s emerged as the best school in the country for national recycling despite having only 56 pupils.
