Galway Bay fm newsroom – Payment services firm Fintrax has halved it’s Connemara workforce with the loss of 35 jobs.

It follows two months of consultation at the multi-national’s headquarters at Ballinahown, over the relocation of data processing services to Poland.
In a statement to Galway Bay FM News, Fintrax says the provisional conclusion of a review into data processing is that the service should be centralised into one location in the Polish capital of Warsaw.

However, it says that local recruitment is continuing for its expanding IT and finance functions located at Tully, Ballinahown and Dangan Business Park.

Udaras na Gaeltachta has also issued a statement, expressing disappointment at the decision to relocate services and the efffect it will have on 35 staff members.

However, the state agency says it recognises that the reconfiguration will allow Fintrax to grow and develop other areas of the business.

Fintrax was established in 1985 to facilitate VAT refunds for international visitors to Ireland and now operates in 30 countries around the globe.

Last November, it received investment of almost 600 million euro following a majority accquisition by French Firm Eurazeo.
