Galway Bay fm newsroom – There are over 600 people across Galway waiting for an initial speech and language assessment – and over 400 of these are children.
The latest HSE figures show that the waiting list for assessments across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon have grown by almost 5% over the past year.
Some patients are waiting up to two years for an appointment.
Galway-Roscommon TD Eugene Murphy claims the majority of patients waiting to be seen are children, and early intervention is essential for those with speech and language difficulties.
The Fianna Fáil deputy says he’ll meet with the Health Minister in the coming days to discuss the issue.
