Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Students’ Union at NUI Galway is urging students to be cautious when committing to private rented accommodation for the college term.
It says it’s important for incoming tenants to ensure that the property and terms of the lease fit their needs before any paperwork is signed.
The advice comes as letting agents have called for action on Galway’s student accommodation crisis as thousands prepare to return over the coming weeks for the new academic year.
Students are also being urged to insist on receipts for rent and repairs – and to work out utility bill arrangements with the landlord before moving in.
Vice President and Welfare Officer Daniel Khann says finding accommodation can be stressful, and students should avoid rushing into making a decision.
