McCarthy hoping to continue winning ways in Roscommon

A top class field, including Irish Internationals will take to Roscommon Golf Club next week in the hope of being crowned Connacht Girls’ Champion. 2015 Champion Eleanor Metcalfe (Laytown and Bettystown) will return to defend her title which she won at Castledargan last year.

Hot on her heels will be Girls’ International Julie McCarthy (Forrest Little), who is fresh home from the European Team Championships in Oslo where the Irish Girls’ won Flight B to finish 9th overall. Julie has already claimed the Ulster and Leinster Girls’ Championships this year and will be hoping to keep to her winning ways next week.

Roscommon is one of Connacht’s top parkland courses and has hosted a number of high-level championship events in the past. Competitors in the U18 event will play 36 holes stroke play on the first day and 18 on the second day with the winner being crowned over 54 holes. All information for the Connacht Girl’s Championship, including the draw can be found HERE.

At the same venue and date the Golfstyle Connacht Girls’ U16 Championship will also be played for. Up and coming players Anna Dawson (Tramore), Kate Dwyer (Rossmore) and Lavinia Bowe (Royal Co.
