Galway Bay fm newsroom – A city councillor and business owner is hoping to work out new guidelines which could see issues such as creative murals on city buildings remain in place.
It follows the removal of the beanstalk mural at Claddagh Jewellers, Mainguard Street after a long planning battle.
Planners were concerned that it detracted from the ‘visual appearance’ of the city centre building.
Councillor Niall McNelis, who has his own business with a small mural at the Spanish Arch, says he believes the approach taken by city planners was excessive.
The Labour councillor says murals such as the one which had been on Claddagh Jewellers, added to the creative culture of the city.
Councillor McNelis says he will push for a new approach between businesses and planners in the city.
