Galway Bay fm newsroom – Flood relief works have been delayed at Dunkellin River in South Galway.
Fine Gael Loughrea area councillor Moegie Maher says the works were due to start around now but are now postponed until mid September.
Councillor Maher has also hit out at the timeline for the works which are expected to take three years to complete.
The matter was raised at a meeting of the local authority this week where an update on flooding was provided by officials.
Councillor Maher told Keith Finnegan the people of South Galway can’t survive another flooding incident.
Director of Services Liam Gavin says conditions were set out for the project by An Bord Pleanala.
These include the building up of a bank of sampling of water over a three month period as well as cleaning works which can only be carried out in certain seasons.
