Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway TD is calling for the creation of a leasing programme to tackle shortages in Garda vehicles nationwide.
Deputy Anne Rabbitte says that Gardai in East Galway are down from 17 cars in 2011 to just 12 cars last month – a drop of 30 percent.
Speaking in the Dail, the Fianna Fail TD said the decrease in Garda numbers, the closure of stations and the loss of cars are all having a ‘direct impact’ on anti-social behavior.
She told the chamber that elderly people across Galway are afraid to answer their doors in the evening for fear of who might be at the door.
Deputy Rabbitte outlined a vehicle leasing scheme that she believes would offer far greater support to Gardai.
