Galway Bay fm newsroom – Bus Eireann says it’s hopeful that the increased frequency of its Parkmore service will help to tackle traffic congestion in the area.

Extra buses will be made available to commuters who use the 409 Parkmore to Doughiska service from Sunday.

The Parkmore to Doughiska 409 bus service carries over one million passengers a year, and is one of the busiest bus routes in the country.

The frequency of the weekday service is being increased from this Monday, and the bus will run every 12 minutes instead of every 15 minutes.

Bus Eireann says the extra buses will run between 7am and 7pm, in a bid to combat congestion and allow more commuters to avail of public transport.

At the weekends, the frequency will also be increased to every 20 minutes, instead of every half hour.

Last year, double-decker buses were introduced on the route due to high passenger numbers.

Thousands of people work in various companies in the Parkmore/Ballybrit area and long delays are reported at peak times.

Bus Eireann Regional Manager Brian Connolly says the frequency of the 409 service may be increased further in the future.
