Galway Bay fm newsroom – Funding of over half a million euro has been allocated for repairs to harbours and slipways across the Connemara region.
The fund is part of a 4.5 million euro national fund to help remedy damage done during recent storms and severe weather.
Galway County Council says it usually receives 300 to 400 thousand euro a year for repair works at harbours across the Connemara region.
However, this year, additional funding has been sanctioned to cover the more extensive work required.
The biggest allocation of 112,500 euro will be used to repair Fahy Pier at Sky Road in Clifden, while 90,000 euro will go towards works ar Canower, Cashel Bay.
82,500 euro will be used for rehabilitation works at Cleggan Pier, and a further 78 thousand euro will be used to repair access steps and a pontoon at Dooneen Pier in Letterfrack.
Céibh Tuairín in Carraroe and Eanach Mheáin in Bealadangan will each benefit from funding of 75,000 euro, while 60,000 euro will be spent on repair works at Bunowen Pier.
