Galway Bay fm newsroom – Irish Water says Carraroe residents will have to continue boiling their water before use for at least another six months until the area’s water treatment plant is upgraded.
A boil water notice was issued for the Carraroe public water supply this week following the detection of cryptosporidium.
The notice affects almost 5,000 people in the area.
Residents are advised to boil their water for drinking, food preparation, brushing of teeth and the making of ice.
Meanwhile, Irish Water is working to upgrade the water treatment plant in Carraroe, but the process has been held up due to land ownership issues.
Irish Water spokesperson Mark McCauley says it’ll be around six months by the time the works are completed, and the boil notice will remain in place until then.
