Over 21 million euro to be invested in Galway nursing homes

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over 21 million euro will be spent upgrading nursing homes across Galway in the next five years.

Social Care Minister Kathleen Lynch has announced the funding as part of a national investment programme for 2016-2021

The largest Galway allocations are going to Units 5 and 6 at Merlin Park Hospital and St Anne’s Community Nursing Unit in Clifden.

Each will benefit from an investment of 9.3 million euro.

Aras Mhuire Community Nursing Unit in Tuam has secured a 3.3 million euro boost.

460 thousand euro has been invested in the newly-refurbished Aras Mhic Dara facility in Carraroe, while 400 thousand euro has been sanctioned for Aras Ronan on Inis Mór.

The national fund will be used to refurbish or replace 90 existing centres across the country by 2021.
