Galway Bay fm newsroom – Industrial action among care workers in Galway and Roscommon will get underway tomorrow.
Over 400 Brothers of Charity and Ability West staff claim they are owed ‘twilight’ payments or unsocial hours.
Agreement has been reached to make ‘twilight’ payments to care workers going forward but the issue of arrears has still not been resolved.
Negotiations at the Labour Relations Commission between Impact trade union and HSE representatives resulted in the figure demanded by staff being reduced from 7.5 to 4.1 million euro.
Staff will engage in industrial action from tomorrow in the form of withdrawing from clerical and administration duties.
If no resolution is reached, Impact union says industrial action will escalate to withdrawal of bus driving duties and one hour stoppages.
The union says it regrets that it has to impact on service users, but staff feel they have no other choice.
