Galway Bay fm newsroom – One city canal is set for a revamp.
The City Council has granted approval to replace the lock gates at Eglinton canal.
The gates at Parkavera are protected structures.
The works will involve dismantling the existing lock gates, assessing the steel components, restoring the ground paddle valves and gate anchors and installing replacement lock gates.
There are 6 conditions attached to grant of planning permission.
The work must be monitored by a conservation architect and construction work must only take place between 9am and 6pm on weekdays and 9am and 1pm on Saturdays.
