Fohenagh residents feel isolated and ignored as flooding continues

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Residents in the village of Fohenagh say they feel forgotten, isolated and ignored as the area struggles to cope with the worst flooding in recent years.

Local Sharon Gormally says eight houses are cut-off by unprecedented water levels and the main Fohenagh-Ballymacward road remains impassable.

She says that an 84-year old woman and her 75-year old neighbour are forced to rely on a transporter to escape the floodwaters.

Sharon says there is an ongoing problem of flooding in the Fohenagh area – but the flooding in recent weeks is by far the worst experience yet.

She says the nature of the land in the region means that measures introduced to tackle floodwaters in others areas such as Labane would not work – and unique action is required.

Sharon says they feel like nothing is being done to rectify the situation – and the mood and morale in Fohenagh are low.
