Galway Bay fm newsroom – Met Eireann says storm Eva, which will make landfall in Galway this afternoon, will be ‘short and sharp’.
Winds of up to 120km per hour are expected to batter the county this afternoon.
The West and North-West will be worst hit – an orange weather warning has been issued for Galway, Donegal, Mayo, Sligo and Clare.
While there’s a yellow warning for the rest of the country.
But forecaster Pat Clarke says it won’t take storm Eva long to clear.
Local authorities are taking precautions to protect flood-prone areas due to high tides also.
Junior Minister for the OPW Simon Harris says he is working on a co-ordinated approach to help flooding victims.
