Galway Bay fm newsroom – Bord Iascaigh Mhara says it now has to review the entire business case for a salmon fish farm in Galway Bay.
Last evening, BIM withdrew an application for a controversial 15,000 tonne deep sea fish farm near Inis Oírr.
The decision was made because of the Government’s aquaculture strategy which limits the scale of fish farm developments.
The project, which aimed to generate 500 jobs, was opposed by angling and environmental groups.
Director of Aquaculture with Bord Iascaigh Mhara, Donal McGuire told Keith Finnegan, that they can’t rule out a smaller scale application for Galway, but it might not be viable.
Councillor Tom Welby says the Marine Minister, Simon Coveney needs to consider his position in light of the decision by BIM.
