Galway Bay fm newsroom – Right2Housing Galway has held a demonstration in Eyre Square to highlight the number of vacant properties across the city.
The group says that despite a desperate need for social housing across Galway, a large number of housing units in the city deliberately remain empty.
Up to 30 campaigners gathered at St Patrick’s Avenue off Eyre Square this afternoon to highlight the situation, which they say is being caused by developer greed.
They’re also calling on Galway’s politicians to exercise stronger political will on the housing and homelessness crisis facing the county.
Right2Housing claims that Galway City Council is sitting on up to one hundred boarded up properties across the city as thousands of people remain on housing waiting lists.
The group says that all sectors of society across the county need to work together to build pressure for change and create a housing policy that benefits those in need.
