Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway’s gaeltacht currently supports almost 3,000 full time jobs, supported by Udarás na Gaeltachta.
The figure has been revealed in the Udarás annual report for 2014.
271 new jobs were created in the Galway Gaeltacht last year.
When job losses are taken into account, there was a net gain of 94 new jobs on the previous year.
Companies in the medical devices, food and drink, specialist manufacturing and services sectors saw growth in employment during the year.
Companies operating in the traditional manufacturing and the audio-visual sectors shed jobs throughout the year.
A significant number of new projects were approved during the year for the Galway Gaeltacht area.
These projects will generate a total investment of €22 million.
A total of 368 people were employed in social employment schemes in the Galway Gaeltacht by December last year.
