Galway Bay fm newsroom – Time has run out for a halting site at Carrowbrowne on the Headford Road.
The City Council had lodged an appeal to An Bord Pleanála against a decision by the county council not to grant an extension of planning permission for the site.
An Bord Pleanála has decided to uphold the decision of the county council to deny an extension of planning permission for the 15-bay halting site.
In refusing an extension of planning permission for Carrowbrowne Halting site, An Bord Pleanála said exceptional circumstances do not prevail.
They ruled that given previous grants of permission which have extended the life of the halting site, to grant permission again would not be in accordance with proper planning.
The higher planning authority says it took into account the acknowledged unsuitability of the site as a place for prolonged human settlement.
This is due to its location in an un-zoned and poorly serviced area.
It’s not yet clear what the city council will now do in terms of accommodating its residents.
