Galway Bay fm newsroom – Residents in the Ballinfoile-Castlegar area are conducting a house to house petition from today over the future of the area’s long-awaited community centre.
Residents are also planning to protest at the next meeting of Galway City Council in January.
An emergency meeting took place in the city last evening, and around 60 people were in attendance, including representatives from local sport and community groups.
The public meeting was organised to discuss a number of contentious issues surrounding the running of the four million euro facility.
Residents fear the centre will end up being privatised due to a lack of council funding to staff the facility.
Spokesperson for the Ballinfoile Mór RAPID committee, Brendan Smith, says locals have fought long and hard for the centre, and want to see it run by the community.
