Galway Bay Fm news-The water levels in most of the rivers around Galway have continued to fall except for the adjoining River Shannon which is now expected to peak tomorrow (Monday).
A spokesperson for Galway Co Council told Galway Bay Fm News that when further waters from Lough Derg enter the Shannon and all the river’s levels rise again it will have an impact on the N65 near Portumna.
But for now traffic is moving both ways on this route including at the bridge in Portumna which opened earlier to two lane traffic.
In Ballinasloe business has been going ahead as usual and the Office of Public Works has announced that water levels on both the River Suck and the River Clare have dropped today.
While many smaller roads remain flooded and impassable, especially in the Gort area, around Labane and in parts of North and East Galway, there was good news earlier for the residents of Montiagh in Claregalway as the road there became passable once again – but with care.
Road users are reminded to obey all signage in place on any road where there is flooding and not to take risks.
The council says there’s still excess water on all roads so drivers are advised to slow down and to drive cautiously.
Galway County Council is continuing to monitor water levels.
