Galway Bay fm newsroom – Patients at UHG due to have surgical procedures early next week are facing postponements as nurses at the hospital prepare to strike.
The Saolta West Northwest Hospitals Group says it’s working with the local INMO strike committee to ensure that patients at UHG are managed safely during the work stoppages.
The planned period of INMO industrial action will take place at UHG from 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday.
The HSE says it’s requested the strike committee to provide the necessary manpower on the day in a bid to minimise the impact of the industrial action on patients.
As part of the HSE’s contingency plans, some non-urgent elective procedures scheduled for early next week will be deferred.
All patients affected will be contacted directly by the hospital, and the health executive says new dates will be re-scheduled as soon as possible.
All essential treatments, like cancer care and kidney dialysis, will continue as normal.
The industrial action is also expected to have an impact on the Emergency Department at UHG throughout the day on Tuesday and into Wednesday.
