Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council is moving to tackle reports of serious illegal dumping at the marina in Portumna.
It follows recent claims made by a local councillor that persistent dumping at the popular location was being ignoring by local authorities.
Councillor Anne Rabbitte has described the situation at Portumna marina as a major health and safety concern.
She claims a number of vehicles parked illegally at the site for a number of weeks were dumping significant quantities of rubbish at the popular amenity.
Galway County Council has confirmed that the waste material has now been removed following correspondence with the OPW, which owns the site.
It also says the site will be the subject of a further follow-up inspection by the council’s Environment unit to ensure no further dumping is carried out.
